Houston W Longino III, a beloved member of his community, went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2024, in Cleveland, MS, at the age of 80. A visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. October 15, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home, Cleveland, MS. Graveside Service will follow at Delta Heights Memorial Garden Cemetery.
He was born on April 1, 1944, to Houston and Helen Longino Jr. in Shreveport, LA, he lived a life dedicated to service and family.
After the call of duty, Houston served as a machinist in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1971. Following his military career, he brought his expertise to several workplaces, he retired from Baxter and Delta State University.
Houston was not only a skilled professional but also a dedicated public servant. He was an active member of the Bolivar County Volunteer Fire Department Battalion I for 35 years, demonstrating his passion for helping others at every opportunity. He was an avid hunter and firearm enthusiast.
He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Mississippi State University in 1972, a testament to his dedication to education and lifelong learning. Houston cherished the knowledge and skills he gained during his studies, which he often shared with those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Houston and Helen Longino.
Houston is survived by his loving wife, Beverly Minert Longino of Merigold, MS; son, Michael E. Campbell (Dana) of Merigold, MS; sister, Margaret Ann Longino of N. Richland Hills, TX, along with his cherished grandchildren, Nikki L. Keyes, Haily M. Campbell, and Ashley D. Douglas; sister-in-law, Susan L. Cox (David); brother-in-law, Robert D. Minert (Teri); niece, Emily E. Chandler; and great nephew, Nelson Ray Chandler. Houston was a proud grandfather to seven great-grandchildren. He shared his days with his constant K9 companion, Josi, who provided unwavering loyalty and companionship.
Houston W Longino III will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his country, community, and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the National Rifle Association, St Jude Children’s Hospital, or any charity of your choice.
