James "Jimmy" Barnett, 55, formerly of Cleveland, MS was called home to be with the Lord on June 14, 2022.
A celebration of life services will be held June 25, 2022 at 2:00pm at The Church of God.
Jimmy was born on August 21, 1966 in Cleveland to Mr. Buford Barnett and Virgina Borden Barnett. He grew up in the MS Delta where he attended Clarksdale High School. Jimmy went on to become a Deputy Sheriff in Sunflower and Bolivar County and selflessly served for over 20 years. He married Carol Caven Barnett on January 14, 1989 at Boyle Baptist Church. Jimmy enjoyed fishing and watching good movies with his family. According to his wife, he was a workaholic. To know him was to love him. He had the most contagious smile, and when he laughed, you couldn't help but laugh with him. Children were drawn to him and he loved every minute of it. His family was the most important thing in the world to him.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Borden, and his father, Buford Barnett.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol Caven Barnett of Cleveland; his son, Christopher Thomas of Cleveland, and his daughters, Cher'e Litton of Ponotoc and Elizabeth Thomas of Cleveland. He is survived by 5 grandchildren; Lauren Baker of Water Valley, Katelyn Peacock of Cleveland, Waylon Litton of Ponotoc and Layla Litton of Ponotoc and Gracie Fluckinger of Wyoming; and 3 great grandchildren Skylar Kitchens, Layne Sterling, and Maisley Jones. He is survived 5 brothers; David Bailey of Austrailia, James Gwen (Barbara) Barnett of Memphis, Benny Ray Barnett of Memphis, Gary (Betty) Barnett of Cleveland, Charles(Shirley) Barnett of Cleveland; sisters; Carol Read of England, Ann Underwood of Memphis, Kay Anderson of Memphis, Pamela Turner of Sparta TN, Michelle Proud of Virginia, Jo Lynn Skelton of Oxford; and host of nieces and nephews.
