James Calloway Burdine

James Calloway Burdine, 90, of Cleveland, Mississippi, was called home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2024, while surrounded by family.

A visitation honoring James will be held Monday, July 22, 2024, from 10-11 AM at the St. Luke United Methodist Church with a celebration of life service to follow at 11 AM in the St. Luke United Methodist Church. A graveside service will proceed in the Haughton Memorial Park Cemetery in Amory, MS, at 4:00 PM.

On July 18, 2024, we say goodbye to James, a remarkable soul. Born on September 11, 1933, in Monroe County to his loving parents, Orie Payne Burdine and Beulah Mae Hathcote Burdine, he grew up in the embrace of Amory. James attended and graduated from Amory High School, a place that held a special spot in his heart. It was those early years that James crossed paths with the love of his life, Loretta Young Davis. Together they embarked on a journey of love and companionship that spanned an incredible 70 years, creating a bond that stood the test of time.

James dedicated over three decades of his life to Baxter Laboratories, where his skills as an Instrumentation expert shone brightly until the well-deserved moment of retirement arrived. Beyond his professional accomplishments, James had a passion for constructing and maneuvering radio control airplanes in his leisure hours, a hobby that brought him immense joy.

James is preceded in passing by his parents Orie & Beulah Burdine, his twin grandchildren Jamie and Juie Barrett, sister Barbara Burdine, nephew Kerry Davis, and fur-baby Davina.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Loretta Burdine of Cleveland, children, Debbie (Allen) Barrett of Peachtree City, GA, Michael (Emily) Burdine of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, four grandchildren Rob (Cameron) Barrett, Laura Leigh Barrett, Molly Burdine, Matthew Burdine, and great-grandson Richard.
