James Orestes Hopkins, 88, died Thursday, November 17, 2011. Visitation will be Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Ray Funeral Home from 1 - 2 p.m. Celebration of life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Haney and Rev. James Breland officiating. Burial will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Hopkins was born on January 12, 1923, to Jim and Jimmie Mathew Hopkins. His father died when he was 9 month old, and his mother married Rev. Felton Warren. He attended Boyle School, and served in the military as a Tech. Sergeant in Iwo Jima, Japan during World War II. He was a retired employee of Trunkline Gas Co, and a farmer. He married Billie Jean Hopkins on January 14, 1951, and they had three children, Deborah Kaye Hopkins of Thibodaux, LA, Gloria Faye Burton, and her husband, Bobby from Beulah, MS, James Wesley "Buddy" Hopkins and his wife, Laura from Thibodaux, LA; five granddaughters, Tabitha Faye Shamblin, Rachael and Madelyn Hopkins, Natalie Yurkow, Jennifer Burton; two great-grandsons, Drew Tatum and Wesley Tatum, Corey Shamblin and Taylor Shamblin; great granddaughter, Abby Tatum; three brothers, Bobby Warren, of Thibodaux, LA, Jimmy Warren of Cleveland, MS, Pat Warren of Greenville, MS; and two sisters, Bonnie Strunk and Lucy Provis both of Thibodaux, LA.
Mr. Hopkins was an active member of the Interstate Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a Master Mason, and a member of the Benoit Outing Club and also enjoyed croppie fishing.

Honorary pallbearers are W.D. Beach, Stanley Jones, and great grandsons, Drew Tatum, Wesley Tatum, and Cory Shamblin.
