James Stanford

Mr. James Walter (Skeeter) Stanford, 84, of Skene, MS, passed away Tuesday, August 16,2011, at Walter B. Crook in Ruleville, MS. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Ray Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Celebration of life service will be Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Skene Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Wayne Sistrunk officiating. Burial will follow service in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Stanford was born September 19, 1926 to James Mansfield Stanford and Velma Mae Washington in Skene, MS. He married Barbara Tidmore in Drew, MS, June 11, 1961. He was employed by Mississippi Power and Light and shortly after was drafted into the Army for two years. After his service in the army he returned to Mississippi Power and Light, where he worked for 43 years. He was one of the first members of the Benoit Hunting Club at the age of sixteen and served as Vice President at the age of twenty-three. He was a self taught hunter since the age of ten and has taught many young men how to hunt. Mr. Stanford was a life long member of Skene Baptist Church. He served as secretary/ treasurer and a deacon in the church for forty-nine years. Upon retiring from Mississippi Power and Light, he farmed from 1988 until 2000.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Velma Mae Washington Stanford and James Mansfield Stanford; brother, C.T. (Buddy) Stanford; and sister, Cherrie Mae Redden.
Mr. Stanford is survived by his wife, Barbara T. Stanford of Skene, MS; daughters, Lisa L. Stanford of Skene, MS and Lori S. Baioni (Kevin) of Collierville, TN; granddaughters, Morgan, Shelby, and Blakely of Collierville, TN; brother, Cecil Lamar of Skene, MS; and sister, Irene Johnson of Skene, MS; eleven nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Baioni, Charles Dickey, Truitt Hobby, Randy Howarth, Sam Hunt, and Robert Stewart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Tidmore, A.C. Tidmore, Jr., Bobby Stanford, Gerald Stanford, Rickie Stanford, Kyle Redden, Mark Redden, Al Mann, Joe Watford, Bennie Woodruff, and Bobby Woodruff.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be to the Alzheimer's Foundation or any organization of your choice.
