James Barksdale Whatley 70, of Beulah was called home to be with the Lord on Sep 11, 2021, in Greenville, MS. A private memorial will be held at a later date upon family's request.
James was born on July 18, 1951, to Barksdale Leconyer Whatley & Betty Jane Franklin in Mississippi. He grew up in the Mississippi Delta where he attended school at Indianola High School. After school he joined the United States Armed Forces and served over ten years. Two tours, one in Vietnam and the other in Germany. After being honorably discharge. He worked a few years in the salvage business until becoming a licensed CDL driver. He worked for over twenty years for several common carrier companies until retiring. James had a great passion for playing music in which he was in several bands. He had a big personality, and always knew how to make people laugh. Most of all he loved his family and friends.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, Barksdale & Betty Jane Whatley.
He is survived by his son, Richard Whatley, one brother, Richard Whatley of Cleveland, MS., sisters, Barbara Ouzts (Chip) of Beulah, MS., Carolyn Sellars of TN, Sharmon Williams of AR, and Carolyn Davis of TX; stepson, Chris Lowery.
