J.C. (Jim) Mallard, Sr., 86, of Benoit, passed away in Cleveland, MS, on Monday, January 14, 2013. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Central Cemetery with Bro. Floyd Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in Central Cemetery, Lexa, AR.
Mr. Mallard was born in Halls, TN on July 11, 1926. He was married to Norma Jean Kimbrough Mallard for 64 years. The family moved to Benoit in 1969 where they raised their four children and he farmed for many years. He loved visiting with his friends. He was a loving father and grandfather. He was an honored war veteran that served in WWII. He liked to tell stories of being a cook on an army train and meeting the young men who were departing for the war. He earned the American Theater Campaign ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Ribbon. He was called "Pop" by all his children and grand children. He served on the Benoit School Board for twenty-two years. He was a member of the Benoit (Baptist) Union Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Porch Mallard and Sadie Mae Scott and Son, Carl Roy Mallard, four brothers and one sister.
Mr. Mallard is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Mallard of Benoit, MS; son, J.C. Mallard Jr. (Luanne) of Ward, AR, Kim Mallard (Ramona) of Greenville, MS; daughter, Paula Mallard Robinson (Mickey) of Cleveland, MS; sister, Bessie Wooten of Lexa, AR, Carolyn Krieger of Houston, MO; brother, Amos Mallard of Lexa, AR; grandchildren, Cory Mallard of Jonesboro, AR, Brandon Mallard of Jonesboro, AR, Paige Robinson of Cleveland, MS, Baron Robinson of Cleveland, MS, Kim Mallard Giachelli of Brandon, MS, Kate Mallard Blaylock of Greenville, MS, Annie Mallard Hughes of Scott, MS; great grandchildren, Logan and Caleb Mallard of Jonesboro, AR, Abbie and Jackston Mallard of Jonesboro, AR, Mary Anniston, Emma and Ava Blaylock of Greenville, MS, Ann Elise and Jayce Giachelli of Brandon, MS; step grandchildren, Kristen Waddell, Matthew Evans, Daniel Evans of Ward, AR; step great grandchildren, Madison Powell, Kilie Evans of Ward, AR.
