Joan Barnett, 69, of Cleveland, passed away on July 18, 2018, at her home. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home with Brother John Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Lehrton Cemetery.
Joan was born on June 12, 2018 in Stewart, Mississippi to Alton and Merle Griffin. She attended Ruleville High School and lived most of her life in Ruleville or Cleveland and the surrounding area but also resided in Hot Springs and Northwest Arkansas. Joan held many jobs in her life including being a Cosmetologist and a role model performance in Walmart's automotive department, but her best roles included family and children, having spent many years as a babysitter.Her eyes and smile lit the room whenever she saw her children or grandchildren, and her ultimate talent was Nana extraordinaire. Any one who heard her laugh or felt her hug would not forget it. Joan loved spending time with her brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors, especially enjoying a competitive game of Skip-Bo Joan was a strong and independent women who sought ways to help others, generously giving her time to making sleeping mats for the homeless. She attended Morrison Chapel Church and will be missed dearly by all who loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Merle Griffin; and brothers, James Homer Griffin and Huey Griffin. Joan is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Bell (Timothy) of Grenada; sons, Brian Barnett (Lorie) of Rogers, AR and Zach Barnett (Katherine) of Downington, PA; granddaughters, Linzy Abraham (Spence) of Cleveland, Alexis Barnett of Rogers, AR and Addison Barnett of Downingtown, PA; grandsons, Kalob Hughes (Brigitte) of Hot Springs, AR, Hestin Tackett of Grenada, Hunter Barnett of Conway, AR, Hayden Baker of Grenada, and Aiden and Aeric Barnett of Downingtown, PA; great grandchildren, Conner and Brewer Abraham of Cleveland and Blane Hughes of Hot Springs, AR; sisters, Coralee Morris of Drew, Nina Faye Poe of Cleveland, and Eloise Cobb of Cleveland; brothers, Billy Joe Griffin of Ruleville and Jack Griffin of Ruleville; sister-in-law, Yolanda Griffin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Poncho Morris, Junior Cobb, Dewayne Griffin, Hestin Tackett, Hunter Barnett, Kalob Hughes, Spence Abraham, Robert Bell and Timothy Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Morris and Joel Morris.
