JoAnn Pounds Forrest

JoAnn Pounds Forrest, 77, of Decatur, formerly of Boyle, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Anderson Regional Medical Center in Meridian, MS. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Memorial services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Interment will be in Delta Heights memorial Garden Cemetery. Mrs. Forrest was born in Boyle, MS on September 23, 1937, to Luther Knight Pounds and Irene Burns Pounds. In 1986, she graduated from Delta State University with a Bachelors Degree of Arts in Psychology. She later furthered that degree by obtaining a Masters in Education in Guidance Counseling in 1988. She was a star basketball player in high school and later enjoyed coaching girl's high school basketball in Natchez, MS. She also enjoyed many years of employment at the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts as a guidance counselor and teacher. She loved her students and helped them through their high school career. She also helped her students with college scholarship opportunities and getting into the college of their choice. Additionally, she was a voracious reader. She enjoyed genealogy and spending time with her family and friends. Most of all she will be remembered for her generosity and caring spirit. She worked tirelessly to help her children, grandchildren, students and anyone else who crossed her path. She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther Knight Pounds and Irene Burns Pounds; and sisters, Nell Pounds Coffin and Wonia Pounds Booker. Mrs. Forrest is survived by her children, Stacey Forrest Kent (Harvey Kent) of Ozark, MO, Jack Forrest, Jr. of Pachuta, MS, Peary Forrest of Jackson, MS, and Scott Forrest of Montgomery, AL; grandchildren, Forrest Kent of Kansas City, MO, Tripp Forrest of Hammond, LA, Jessica Forrest of Decatur, MS, Joshua Forrest of Hattiesburg, MS, Jason Forrest of Decatur, MS, and Taylor Forrest of Montgomery, AL; sisters, Carolyn Woods of Luling, LA, Janis Williams of St. Louis, MO, and Rebecca Sundin of Salt Lake City, UT; brother, Wayne Pounds of Montgomery, TX; and many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
