John Bruce

Mr. John M. Bruce, Jr., 85, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, at North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home with officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Bruce was born in Merigold, MS on July 10, 1929, to Melvin Charles Bruce and Ida Lee Thompson Bruce. He attended Merigold Schools and on July 29, 1949, he married Elouise Smith. He worked most of his life as a butcher in Cleveland; working over 30 years at Gold Star Market and eventually retiring from Big Star in the late 90's. He was known as "Bruce" by many of his customers, and in his spare time he loved to garden and fish.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Ida Lee Bruce; wife of 61 years, Elouise Smith Bruce; first born grandchild, Kim Arbogast; and 8 siblings.
Mr. Bruce is survived by his daughters, Wanda Arbogast (Charles) of Greenville, Teresa Moses (Bill) of Ruleville, and Pat Hodges (Timmy) of Richmond, VA; 7 grandchildren, Leigh Anne Arbogast Obmann (Melissa) of Mountain Top, PA, Brad Arbogast (Monica) of St. Simons Island, GA, Jennifer Parks (A.W.) of Drew, Emily Tackett (Blake) of Cleveland, Katie Moon (Blake) of Cleveland, and Alana Palmer of Cleveland; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, Roy L. Bruce.
Pallbearers will be Chris Hudson, Matthew Wooten, Benjamin Wooten, Blake Moon, Mike Weeks and A.W. Parks.
