John Charles Smith

Mr. John Charles Smith, 84, of Benoit, passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2015, at his home. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside services will begin at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015, at Shelby Cemetery with Rev. Walter Goldsmith and Michael Power officiating. Mr. Smith was born in Barlow, MS on April 19, 1931, to Albert Cleveland Smith and Grace Marie Barker Smith. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean War. On September 8, 1968, he married Marjorie Morris Smith in Cleveland, MS. He was a member of Union Church in Benoit, and was also a farmer.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert Cleveland Smith and Grace Marie Smith; sister, Mildred Niven. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Smith of Benoit; sister, Ann Clay (Dane) of Little Rock, AR; brother in law, Buster Niven of White Bear Lake, MN; and nephews, Mike Niven and Tim Niven both of White Bear Lake, MN; son, Judge AL Smith (Sally) of Boyle, MS; daughters, Cynthia Powers (Michael) of Little Rock, Ar, Sandra Garretson (Roland) of Nashville, TN, Linda Goff (Kerry) of Brandon, MS, and Laura Preda-Smith (Florin) of Benoit, MS; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Al Smith, Roland Garretson, Florin Preda Smith, Jason Satterfield, Matt Parker, and Kerry Goff.
