John "Johnny" William Gorrell 80, of Drew, MS was called home to be with his Lord on February 24, 2021. A visitation will be held at Ray Funeral Home on Saturday, February 27, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life service following at 10 a.m. A private family graveside service will take place at Drew Cemetery. Masks are required to attend.
Johnny was born on August 3, 1940 to William Purvis Gorrell and Bessie Ratliff Gorrell. He grew up in Rome, MS where he attended and graduated from Drew High School. He was the former mayor of Drew, MS and was always trying to make his community better. Until retiring, he worked for Lewis Seed & Feed. He was an avid fisherman who also liked to garden. He enjoyed landscaping with his friend, Phil McNeer. He just loved to play in the dirt any time he could. Most of all he loved spending time with his grand and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, and his loving wife Sarah Luckett Gorrell. He is survived by his son, John Patrick Gorrell (Gaye) of Cleveland, MS; daughters, Stephanie Gorrell of Madison and Elizabeth Dodd (Donovan) of Gulf Shores, AL; brother, Jimmy ( Betty) Gorrell grandchildren, Brittani Gorrell (Jonathan Morris) of Sumner, MS, Sarah Beth Gorrell and Hannah Gorrell of Pass Christian; and great grandchildren, Emmie Morris, Caisen Steadman, and Caroline Morris.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Cancer Society.
