Mr. Joseph A. Canonici, 93, of Shaw, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2012, at Cleveland Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi in Shaw with a Rosary beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Shaw with Father Thomas Mullally officiating. Interment will be in Shaw City Cemetery.
Mr. Canonici was born in Shaw, MS, on November 5, 1919, to Alexander Canonici and Rosa Cacichecaci Canonici. In 1941, he married Louise Gainspoletti. He proudly served our country in the United States Army and worked as a farmer until 1957. After leaving farming, he opened and operated his own grocery and liquor store in Shaw, and worked there until his retirement in the 1980's. Mr Canonici was a past member of the VFW and American Legion. He recently recieved The Lifetime Award in appreciation for years of outstanding service and lasting contributions to the citizens of Shaw in the business industry.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Rosa Canonici;wife, Louise Gainspoletti Canonici; and son, John J. Canonici.
Mr. Canonici is survived by his sons, David A. Canonici (Cece ) of Biloxi,MS, and Michael A. Canonici (Trina ) of West Helena, AR; daughters, Elizabeth Ann Duff (Gene ) of Belle Glade, FL, Patricia Ann Plese (Charles ) of Henderson,NV, Monica Rose Tedford (Donnie ) of Bolton,MS and Daughter in law Wilda Canonici of Shaw, MS; grandchildren, Nick Joseph Canonici (Kathy), Shannon Bumpous (Keith),Paul Jason Canonici (Stephanie), Nicole "Niki" Shemper (Jeff), Caleb Duff, Kirsten Duff, Alex Plese, Matt Plese, Liz Plese,Morgan Powell (Brandon),Lauren Harman (Justin) and Sara Ray (Terry); great grandchildren, Devin Canonici, Todd Vance, Cody Vance, Jacob Canonici, Caden Canonici, Alex Shemper, Alli Shemper, Joseph Tyler Powell,Nathen Tucker Powell and Penelope Duff; and brother, Father Paul V. Canonici of Madison, MS
