Joseph Fava

Joseph Louis "Sonny" Fava , 87, of Shelby, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at his home. Visitation will be held 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September, 15, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby. Services will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby with Father Scott Dugas officiating. Interment will be in the Shelby Cemetery.
Mr. Fava was born in Boyle, MS on May 11, 1925, to Ernesto and Angela Fava. He married Rosa Mangialardi on January 18, 1949 in Shelby. He proudly volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. While in the Navy, he obtained the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon, and the American Area Ribbon. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and the VFW. Mr. Fava was also a member of Delta Council and Farm Bureau and spent over 60 years farming and running Fava Grocery store. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shelby where he previously served on the finance committee. He treasured his farm and took great pride in his crops; he enjoyed hunting with his brothers and nephews; and most of all he adored his wife, daughters, and grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto Fava and Angela Peliconia Fava; infant daughter, Marie Fava; brothers, Etore Fava, Robert Fava Sr, Bruno Fava; and sister, Mary Fava Landi.
Mr. Fava is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rosa Mangialardi Fava of Shelby,MS; daughters, Betty Van Every (David) of Columbus, MS, Donna Koerth (John David) of Highland Village, TX, and Mary Jo Zummo (Nat) of Brandon, MS; grandchildren, Shelby Van Every and Joseph Van Every of Columbus, MS, Angela Koerth of Lewisville, TX and Lauren Koerth of Highland Village, TX; and sister, Carolyn Fava Rocconi of Greenville, MS.
Memorials can be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the charity of your choice.
