Joseph Richard Gladden, 66, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, January 8, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Huber officiating. Interment will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Joe was born in Cleveland, MS, on November 7, 1948, to Oscar Richard Gladden and Katherine Louise Aycock Gladden. He graduated from Drew High School and Delta State University. On December 30, 1973, he married Marjorie Riley at Morrison Chapel Baptist Church. He worked for over thirty years as an accountant for Cives Steel Corporation in Rosedale. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and a former member of the Police Auxiliary. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, working with his hands, building and fixing things, camping, farming with his dad and brother Paul, and definitely golfing. His favorite pastime was spending with his grandson Connor and riding him on his John Deere tractor. Joe also enjoyed following all Delta State University sports.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Kay Gladden.
Joe is survived by his wife of 41 years, Marjorie Riley Gladden of Cleveland; daughter, Jenny Brackin (Joseph) of Cleveland; grandson, Connor Joseph Brackin of Cleveland; his parents; brothers, David Gladden (Peggy) and Paul Gladden both of Cleveland; sister, Tina Gladden of Cleveland; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Earl Coleman, Bill Aycock, Mike Burchfield, Jerry Brower, Jerry Van Namen, and Bob Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins.
In memory of Mr. Gladden, the family requests donations to be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, The American Cancer Society, or the charity of your choice.
