Julius Gainspoletti

Julius Gainspoletti, 94, of Shaw and Cleveland, Mississippi passed into eternity on Thursday April 19, 2018, at Indywood Estates.  A visitation and prayer service will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018, at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland.  A second visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at 11:00 am Monday, April 23, 2018, at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland, with burial at Shaw Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home.
Julius was born on May 25, 1923 in Heathman, Mississippi to Marino and Francesca Gainspoletti.  He married Mary Giachelli on April 24, 1949 in Leland. He proudly served as Staff Sergeant U.S. Army, from 1943 to 1946 during World War II and was deployed to the Pacific on the Island of Guam.  After the war, he served four years in the U.S. Army National Guard of Mississippi.  Julius was an active member of Our Lady of Victories in Cleveland, and formerly of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Shaw where he served on the Pastoral Council, sang in the choir and was a Eucharistic Minister.  He attended Shaw High School and worked at Western Auto and Walmart for over 45 years in Cleveland.  He was a member of the Columbus Club of Shaw, VFW Post 4800, and The American Legion.  He was also a member of The Knights of Columbus, initiated as a Third and Fourth Degree Knight and received Knight of the Year in 2011.  On April 24, 2012 he was honored by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Honor Flight III and traveled to Washington, DC to tour our nation's capitol.  He was an avid bocce player, winning and placing in several local tournaments.  Julius was a well-known "Santa Claus" in his community for over 40 years.  He was an enthusiastic card and domino player, loved gardening, was a devout Catholic, and an extremely patriotic veteran who honored and served his country. He deeply cherished and adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marino and Francesca Gainspoletti; and his beloved wife, Mary of 53 years.
He is survived by his son, Gary Gainspoletti (Jamey) of Cleveland; three daughters, Marilyn Gainspoletti (Aubrey Derry) of Bay St. Louis, Donna Ross of Houston, Texas, and Judy Gurney (Ed) of Kingwood, Texas; one sister, Theresa Martolini (Joe) of Chicago, Illinois; five grandchildren, Presley Lee (Andy) and Russell Gainspoletti (Rivers) both of Cleveland, Adam Ross (Maria) of Austin, Texas, Robinson Gurney of Dallas, Texas and Aaron Ross (Carolina) of San Antonio, Texas; and eight great grandchildren, Mary Cambre, Landry and Baylor Lee; Beckham, Noah and Grey Gainspoletti all of Cleveland, and Ryleigh and Millie Ross of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren; and his special friends at Indywood Estates.
Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities, Diocese of Jackson or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital of Memphis.
