Katherine Lamb Carpenter, a.k.a., "Mama Katherine", loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, died on Friday, March 4, 2011. Mrs. Carpenter was born in Winona, MS on February 27, 1916. She was the daughter of James Monroe Lamb and Wilson Felicia KNight. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Felicia, her older brother, James M. "Brother" Lamb, and her husband of fifty-six years. Thomas Travis Carpenter, Sr. of Cleveland, MS.
A devoted fan of the Mississippi State "Maroon Bulldog" and the Delta State (MS) "Fighting Okra", she leaves behind her three sons; Thomas Travis Carpenter, Jr. and wife, Linda of Jackson, MS; James William Carpenter and wife, Susan of Baton Rouge, LA; and Robert Lamb Carpenter and wife, Ramona also of Baton Rouge, LA.
"Mama Katherine" will also be missed by her grandchildren, Suzanne Gregory Carpenter of Mountain View, CA, Thomas Travis Carpenter III of Grenada, MS; Robert Irwin Carpenter and wife, Jamie of Jackson, MS; Katherine Felicia "Katie" Carpenter of Central, LA; and James Robert Carpenter and wife, Kristin of Arlington, VA. Three great-grandchildren include Beatty Kathryn Carpenter, Thomas Robert "Tad" Carpenter, and Brooklyn Renee Robinson.
Her friends and family will always remember and miss her grace, poise, strength, faith, and gentle humor.
Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS will be in charge of arrangements. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.. at Ray Funeral Home on Monday, March 7, 2011. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. in New Cleveland Cemetery with Rev. Milton Burd officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice.
