Mrs. Eley was born on September 30, 1924, to Allen and Rena Taylor of Dyersburg, TN. She grew up in Dyersburg and following graduation went to work at Oak Ridge, TN. She then attended Bethel College in Jackson, TN. On June 12, 1948, she married Dr. William A. Eley and they moved to Cleveland where he began his dental practice.
Mrs. Eley was a devoted wife and mother. Her home was always open to her children and their friends. She had just become acquainted with her three great-grandsons.
Mrs. Eley was an accomplished musician who played piano by ear. She accompanied performers for years and performed personally for numerous civic clubs and social functions. She was called on with frequency and was a drawing card for music lovers. Of particular delight to her was directing "Whistlestop U.S.A", a Little Theater musical production celebrating the bicentennial in May of 1976. Five of her original songs were presented at that time. She was often accused of being the life of the party.
She was a life member of the Cleveland Junior Auxiliary, a member of bridge club and the Delta Garden Club, and she was a pianist for a quartet called "The Divas". She was an avid reader, liked to travel, enjoyed entertaining friends in her home, and attending civic events and programs at the Bologna Arts facility.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. William Eley; and a son, Bill. She leaves behind two sons, Bob (Burnice) of Cleveland, their children and grandchildren; Steve (Kim) of Orlando, FL, their children; and one daughter, Katrena Fowler(Lawrence) of Vicksburg and her children.
Pallbearers will be Danny Abraham, Bob Card, Billy Nowell, Danny Lyons, Eckward McKnight, Dave Fowler, Mike Brister, and Aaron Lasker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Bob Ragan, Dr. James Robinson, Dick Bolling, Dr. Eric Muir and Ed Kossman, Jr.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Bolivar County Library or the Delta Arts Alliance.
