Kell Semmes Lyon, Jr., 87, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Shelby Nursing and Rehab.
Kell was born in Cleveland, MS, on September 29, 1930, to Kell Semmes Lyon, Sr. and Clara Lee Hill Lyon. On October 1, 1950, he married Evelyn Caroline Lyon in Biloxi, MS, at Keesler Airforce Base. He proudly served his country in the United States Airforce during the Korean War, and continued his love of flight by working as an Ag Pilot for over 40 years. He owned and operated Lyon Aviation, instructed many upcoming pilots, and also served on the Board at Cleveland Municipal Airport. Serving his community, he was a Boy Scout troop leader and worked for many years in the Forestry Service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kell Semmes Lyon, Sr. and Clara Lee Hill Lyon; and sister, Nell Perrin.
Kell is survived by his wife, Evelyn "Bootsie" Lyon of Cleveland; children, Rex S. Lyon (Kelly) of Cleveland, Beverely Janoush of Cleveland, and Poppy L. Crain (John) of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Rex S. Lyon, Jr. (Alyssia), Bert R. Lyon, John W. Crain, Jr. (Lauren), Dax L. Walker, Callaway C. Crain (Sue Ellen), Chelsea N. Emerson (John), and Kell S. Crain; great-grandchildren, Jackson Lyon, Kaitlyn Lyon, Camden Crain, Witt Crain, Hallie Emerson, and Lillian Emerson; and siblings, Mildred "Bitsy" Langston of Florida and Rebecca Rodgers of Humble, TX.
