Lillian Deloris (Dell) Kittrell of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. and the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland, Mississippi. Burial will follow the funeral service at Delta Heights Memorial Garden Cemetery on Highway 8 East.
Dell was born December 4, 1924 to Floyd and Gladys Homer in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. She spent the majority of her life in the Mississippi Delta and attended Delta State University. She loved gardening in the great outdoors and was an avid hunter in her youth. She was an accomplished bridge and domino player. One of her outstanding achievements was that she was a self-taught pianist.
She is preceded in death by her parents and former husbands Willard Guyton Whitten, Sr., James House and Robert Norman Kittrell. Also preceding her in death were her brother, Floyd Homer, Jr., and sister, Wavelyn Ruth Homer. Her maternal grandparents were Nancy and Henry Elliott and paternal grandparents Flossy and Mitch Homer.
She is survived by her sons, Donny Whitten (Deanna) and Guy Whitten of Cleveland, MS, daughter, Pam Whitten Wilson (Wally) of Madison, MS; sister, Ann Homer Cook of Ridgeland, MS; grandchildren, Melanie Whitten Callicott (Millard) of Baton Rouge, LA; Whitt Whitten (Kim) of Madison, MS, Natalie Whitten of San Francisco, CA, Michael Whitten of Cleveland, MS, Manda Whitten LaCaze (Alan) of Huntsville, AL, Rebecca Wilson Benson of Pensacola, FL, Will Wilson, Robert Wilson and Adelaide Wilson of Madison, MS; seven great-grandchildren, Kate Callicott and Adam Callicott of Baton Rouge, LA, Connor Whitten, Carson Whitten, and Catherine Whitten of Madison, MS. Molly Jane Winter LaCaze of Huntsville, AL; Henry Benson and Oliver Benson of Pensacola, FL,
Pallbearers will be Whitt Whitten, Michael Whitten, Conner Whitten, Millard Callicott, Will Wilson, Robert Wilson, Shone Cook and Stan Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy House, Will House, Rodney Lamb, Billy Davis, James Strait, Leo McGee, Ray Travis and Sid Cook.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to express appreciation for the care provided by the staff of the Walter B. Crook Nursing Home and the loving staff at North Sunflower Medical Center, especially Dr. Montesi.
