A Memorial Celebration of Life will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. John Thomas officiating. Mr. McKnight was born in Cleveland, MS, on April 6, 1945, to Louis Elmo McKnight, Sr. and Della McGovern McKnight. On September 2, 1966, he married Beverly Ann Cochran in Cleveland, MS. Mr. McKnight proudly served our Country in the National Guard. He worked for 31 years as a lineman and repairman for South Central Bell Telephone Company, and he loved his job very much. On top of working for the telephone company, he found time to farm and he enjoyed it greatly.
He was an active member of the 4H Club, Morrison Chapel Church, and was also a dedicated and proud Mason. He was a very talented carpenter who was huge in woodwork and made exceptional swings, cabinets, and numerous other items. Possessing a heart of gold, Mr. McKnight spent every spare minute he had dedicating his time to others. He could often be found doing something for somebody, fundraising, or helping those in need. He enjoyed showing horses, hunting squirrel and raccoon, loving on his dogs, horses and mules, and following his only grandson to everything he was involved in. You could often find him cheering his grandson on and encouraging him from the stands of baseball, basketball, and football games. Mr. McKnight had a love for all people, for his family, and especially for nieces and nephews meant the world to him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Ann Cochran McKnight; and his parents, Louis Elmo McKnight, Sr. and Della McGovern McKnight. Mr. McKnight is survived by his son, Mike McKnight (Allison) of Flora; grandson, Dylan McKnight of Flora; siblings, Jerry Sue Taylor of Shaw, Margaret McKnight (William) of Cleveland, Joe McKnight of Cleveland, and Gayle McKnight of Saltillo; and a host of much loved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
