Lydia Perez Brinkley, 61, of Cleveland, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, Mississippi. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, Mississippi, with the Reverend Rickey Haynes officiating. Interment will follow at North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Brinkley was born on January 16, 1952, in Merigold, Mississippi, to Mike Perez, Sr., and Amelia R. Perez. She married Hugh Brinkley on July 23, 1971, in Rosedale, Mississippi. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and in her words, her favorite hobby was spending time with her adorable twin granddaughters, Alyssa and Anna. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling, and family get-togethers. She was also an avid reader and was dedicated to her position as Technical Services Librarian at the Bolivar County Library for 22 years.
Mrs. Brinkley is preceded in death by her father, Mike Perez, Sr.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Hugh Brinkley of Cleveland; son, David Brinkley of Cleveland; and granddaughters, Alyssa Claire and Anna Grace Brinkley, of Cleveland; her mother, Amelia R. Perez of Cleveland; sisters, Stella Perez and Bertha Perez Neal (Glynn), both of Cleveland; sisters, Esther Garrett and Delia Perez both of Ridgeland, Mississippi; brother, Mike Perez, Jr., (Jeanette) of Mobile, Alabama; half-brother, Theodore Perez (Sanjui) of Mercedes, Texas; nieces and nephews, Stephanie Martin of Orlando, Florida; Brian Garrett (Tiffany) of Brandon, Mississippi; Michael Neal of Cleveland; Jermey Watson (Lacey), Erik Perez, and Justin Perez (Jennifer), all of Mobile, Alabama; and six great nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Brian Garrett, Justin Perez, Erik Perez, Jermey Watson, Matt Arendale, and Joey Kovarcik.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glynn Neal, Tully Boyer, and Rob Taylor.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation of America.
