Mandy Ann Prewitt, age 83, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 20, 2022, at her home in Boyle, MS.
Visitation will take place Saturday, August 27, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Boyle United Methodist Church in Boyle, MS, with a service to immediately follow at 4:00 PM.
Mandy dedicated her life to providing care, both professionally and personally. With a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in education from Delta State University, Mandy first began her professional career as a teacher before becoming a nurse for many years, and later retiring as the director of the Bolivar County Health Department.
Mandy was an avid learner and reader, passing countless lessons - and books - on to family, church members, and friends. Being a patient teacher, the finest caregiver, and an expert baker made Mandy a beloved grandmother to her nine grand and great grandchildren. Birthdays were marked by an angel food or chocolate layer cake, and holidays meant toffee, sugar cookies, divinity, and other sweet treats unmatched by anyone else’s.
Mandy was an active member of Boyle United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School, setting up holiday altar displays, and serving those in need. Quietly, taking great care to bring no attention to herself, Mandy generously met the needs of family, friends, and her community, leaving a legacy of faith and loving through action.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Margie Smith, and siblings, Dr. Charles Smith, Harold Smith, Henry Smith, Margie Shadeck, and Mary McClure.
Mandy is survived by her son, Bern (Kris) Prewitt, Jr. of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Melissa Prewitt of Boyle, MS; sister Martha (Dick) Drane of Fountain Inn, SC; grandchildren, Bethany, Serah,Taylor, Anne Lindsey, Trey, Yeager, Anna Christian, and Tish; great-grandchildren, Reese, Tyler, Ava, and James.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ms. Prewitt’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital
