Marcella Small, 83, of Cascilla, MS was called home to be with the Lord on May 3, 2024, while surrounded by her family.
A visitation honoring Mrs. Marcella will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Ray Funeral Home from 12 pm until 1 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1pm at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at the Indianola City Cemetery.
Marcella was born on January 31, 1941, in Miami, FL to George Brewer and Helen DeBoy Brewer. Marcella married Earl King on August 8, 1960, and they had 4 children. In the next chapter of her life, she married Charles Small on August 8, 1988. Marcella was a DSU art instructor for many years, Marcella's passion for art enriched the lives of her students and colleagues throughout her long career. Her compassion and devotion to her loved ones were truly unmatched. She treasured every moment spent with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the wide circle of people that she considered family, leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations to come. Marcella's kind heart and unwavering dedication to her family and profession will forever be remembered.
Marcella is preceded in passing by her parents, George Brewer,Helen Boyd, and Wilbur Boyd, her son, Lawrence aka Larry King, her step-daughter, Kelly Chandler, her first husband Earl King, her siblings, George Brewer Jr., Helen Thornton, andLettie Frohock.
Marcella is survived by her husband Dr. Charles Small aka Cacaw, her children: Janet (Bobby) Horne of Shaw, MS, Charlotte (Darren) Faulkner of Cascilla, MS, Jeffery (Julie) King of Jonesboro, AR, chosen family Jim (Mary) Chow Jr., of Greenville, MS, step-son Charles Jr. (Rebecca) of Greenwood, MS; 11 grandchildren: Drew, Emily, Lauren (Remus), Cary(Söz), Lee (Jessica), Lawson (Krystal), Spencer (Weiyi), Wolfie, Airston (Wilson), Lawrence, and Jacob; 8 great-grandchildren:Quan, Derrick, Tate, Hazel, River, Eli, Marcella Rose, and Camille; and a host of people who loved her as much as she loved them.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Delta State University art department in her name.
