Margaret Burnett Fleming

Born October 5, 1918, in Coahoma County MS at the home of her maternal grandparents, William Calvin and Ella McCaughan, died on June 19, 2019, at her home in Cleveland, MS. Margaret was the daughter of Zonnie Franklin and Ruth McCaughan Burnett. She spent her childhood in Rena Lara and Clarksdale, MS. After graduating from Clarksdale High School, she attended Hillman College in Clinton, MS, and then graduated from Mississippi College.
Margaret taught school in Skene, MS and on December 31, 1941 she married David Marion (D.M.) Fleming, Jr. in Clarksdale, MS. After the war they settled in Cleveland, MS and were members of the First United Methodist Church. She was a life member of Cleveland Junior Auxiliary.
She is preceded in passing by her husband, D.M. Fleming, Jr., her two sisters, Ella Frances Noland of Clarksdale, MS and Willie Ruth Nowell of Cleveland, MS and Willie Ruth Nowell of Cleveland, MS, and great grandson Troy Jordan. She is survived by daughter Marion (Lee) Jordan of Cleveland, MS and two grandsons David (Natalie) Jordan of Atlanta, GA, and Daniel (Stephanie) Jordan of Cleveland, MS. Also surviving her are four great grandchildren Daniella Jordan, Sayre Weast, Bryer Weast, and Schuler Weast; nephews Jack Nowell and Billy Nowell, and nieces Nancy McKnight and Neysa Yeager.
The family expresses appreciation to her Magnolia Home Care sitters, Patricia Woods Shelly, Susie Hunt, Doris Hicks, Mary Welth, Shondria Howard and Noami Steele. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 130, Cleveland, MS 38732.
Graveside services will be at New Cleveland Cemetery, Monday, June 24, 2019 at 10:00 A.M.
