Mrs. Martha Roberson Cox, 83, of Cleveland, passed away March 18, 2015, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside celebration of life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Delta Heights Memorial Garden Cemetery with Rev. Blake McCollough officiating. Mrs. Cox was born in Bolivar County, MS on August 23, 1931, to Joe Marion Roberson and Tommie Crouch Roberson. On July 21, 1950, she married William Emmit Cox in Cleveland, MS. She worked for 20 years as a telephone operator with Bellsouth Telephone Company and was also a Pioneer with them. She was a member of Dockery Baptist Church, and she loved attending and taking time with the children every year during Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed cooking, quilting, yard work, and sewing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Tommie Roberson; husband, William Emmit Cox; brothers, Marion Roberson and Joel Roberson; and sisters, Marietta R. Walker and Jeanne R. Joel. Mrs. Cox is survived by her children, Emily Sue Cox Herbison of Cleveland, Phyllis Cox Thornton (David) of Cleveland and William "Will" Cox, Jr. of Cleveland; grandchildren, Clinton "Clint" J. Herbison (Ashley) of Spring Lake, NC, Elijah "Eli" Herbison of Cleveland, Jonathan Kyle Weeks of Oxford, Lillie Moree Thornton of Cleveland, and Gabrielle Elaine Cox of Biloxi, MS; brother, Charles Roberson of Cleveland; brother-in-laws, James Joel of Cleveland and O.V. Walker of Flora; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Roberson of McGee, MS. Pallbearers will be Leon Weeks, Joe McKnight, Jerald Everett, Chris Hudson, Matthew Wooten, Otis Hill and James Staples. Honorary pallbearers will be Norman Stank and Butch Herbison. In memory of Mrs. Cox, donations may be made to Dockery Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
