Mrs. Mary Alice Veazey Ray, 91, of Tupelo, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupeo, MS. Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday September 21, 2018, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2018, with Rev. Charles Runnels officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Gardens Cemetery.
Mrs. Ray was born in McCool, MS, on March 4, 1927, to Ernest Warren Veazey and Lona Ramage Veazey. She graduated from McCool High School, and shortly after she married John Allen Ray on February 5, 1944, in Kosciusko. In 1949, the Ray family moved to Greenville where they were involved in the farming and cattle industry for over 30 years, and they were members of the New Life Church of God. Mrs. Ray was a woman with a heart of gold, who loved each and every one of her children equally. Throughout her life, her primary focus was always on her family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Allen Ray; parents, Ernest Warren Veazey and Lona Ramage Veazey; grandson, James Stafford "Jimbo" Jones; granddaughter, Wendy Diane Webb; and brother, Coy Hugh Veazey.
Mrs. Ray is survived by her beloved children, Peggy Whittington (Cecil) of Little Rock, AR, Diane Headley (Nolan) of Greenville, Tom Ray (Vallerie) of Cleveland, Ted Ray (Rita) of Cleveland, Toni Paxton (Galla) of Sea Side, FL, Vermon Hawes (Ken) of Saltillo, and David Ray (Michelle) of Cleveland; grandchildren, Cindy, Robin, Shane, Al, Kim, Allison, April, Xan, Kyle, Dylan, Mary Kristian, Madison, Gage, Gracie, Logan; 16 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
