Mary Ida Ross

Mary Ida Vause Ross, 92, of Benoit, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Washington Care Center in Greenville, MS. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015, at Benoit Union Church. Celebration of Life services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015, at Benoit Union Church with Rev. Luther Robertson and Joe Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in Greenville Cemetery. Mrs. Ross was born on August 26, 1922, to Louis Oscar Vause and Dale Marshall Vause. She attended MSCW where she obtained a bachelors degree in Home Economics. She taught school at Greenville Public School, Morgan City Schools, and Benoit Elementary. On December 25, 1944, she married Joe Robinson Ross in Charleston, MS. She was a member of Benoit Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also a longtime member of United Methodist Women, a faithful member of the Ladies Sunday School Class, and a 50 year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was avid Bridge Player for over 50 years with Benoit Bridge Club, and an excellent seamstress who shared her talent with people in the community. She enjoyed making Christmas stockings and wedding dresses for friends and family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Louis Oscar Vause and Dale Marshall Vause; husband, Joe Robinson Ross; brother, Louis Vause; and sister, Jane Vause "Chuddy" Kellner. Mrs. Ross is survived by 2 daughters, Dale Ward (Calvin) of Benoit and Sarah Balben (Tom) of Teton Valley, ID; son, Dr. Joe R. Ross, Jr. (Patricia) of Jackson; six grandchildren, Dr. Ross Ward, Michael H. Ross, Dr. Kevin Ward, Dr. Sarah Forbus, Martin Balben and Laura Balben. Pallbearers will be Ross Ward, Kevin Ward, Michael Ross, Lane Jenkins, Travis Satterfield, Charlie Nelson, Ernest Kellner, Emery Skelton, and Gene Vause.
