Mary Moore Mansker Crews passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at her home. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 2012 at Ray Funeral Home. Services will be held on Monday, July 30 at 10:00 at First United Methodist Church in Cleveland, MS. Burial will follow in the New Cleveland Cemetery. Ray Funeral home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Crews was born on February 22, 1920 in Kilmichael, MS. Her family moved to Ruleville where she graduated from Ruleville High School. On October 22, 1940 she married Norman Crews. They moved to Maltoon, IL where they lived for two years, before returning to the Delta to engage in farming with Mr. Crews' sister Nell Crews Doty. They operated the farm together until Mr. Crews passed away in 1965. After his death she continued to manage the farm and raise three young children. She retired from farming in 1985 and passed those duties to her son, Joseph.
She was a 68 year member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 18 years, and served on various committees. She loved her church family, and missed being able to attend worship services with them following her stroke in November of 2009.
Her family was her greatest love. She was a wonderful, giving, caring, and loving mother, who adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, David Moore Mansker and Edna Pittman Mansker; husband, Norman Melvillle Crews; Brothers, Crawford Mansker, W.S. Manskser; sisters, Arlene Everitt, Maurice Papasan, and Catherine Harger.
Survivors include two sons, Mel Crews of Dallas, TX and Joseph Crews (Joanne) of Cleveland, MS; and one daughter, Mary Nelle Fennell (Don) of Jacksonville, FL; five grandchildren, Allison Bass (Sam), Julie Fennell, Gary Crews (Rae), David Crews (Maribeth), and Alan Crews; eight great-grandchildren, Lucy Short, Lindy Short, Parker Bass, Crews Bass, Anna Chloe Crews, Sarah Elizabeth Crews, Pittman Crews, and Mary Courtland Crews.
Memorials can be made to the New Renovation Fund of the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 130, Cleveland, MS.
