Mary Rose Long Jennings, 86, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at St. Dominic's Hospital in Jackson, MS. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday February 23, 2013 at Ray Funeral Home Cleveland, MS. Celebration of life services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Milton Burd officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mary Rose Jennings, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born on January 3, 1927, to William Floyd and Earline Long. At an early age, her family moved to Bolivar County. She attended Skeen schools where she met and later married C.L. Jennings. They had three children: Rose, Rita and Cecil. She had 3 grandchildren: Chip, Kelly and Leigh-Ann. She was most proud of the newest addition to her family, great grandchildren: Brileigh Paige and Brantley Chase Welch.
Mary Rose was a beautiful, strong, talented, smart Christian lady. She was a member of First Baptist of Cleveland and loved her Sunday school class. Mary worked at Baxter prior to helping run Jennings Cabinet and Antiques. At age 59, she became a nurse and was very proud of this accomplishment. Ten years ago, she moved to Jackson and attended Woodland Hills Baptist Church. Mary loved helping her son and his partner Liz Cox with their estate sale business. Three years ago, she moved to Orchard Assisted Living in Ridgeland, MS.
Mary Rose will forever be known to her grandchildren as "Gran" and "Big Gran" to her great grandchildren. They will also remember her for her "Be Good Cakes." She is loved dearly by her entire family and will be greatly missed.
Mary Rose Jennings is survived by her three children: Rose Clark, Dallas, TX; Rita (Bobby) Twiner, Brandon, MS; and Cecil Jennings, Jackson, MS. Three grandchildren: William Jennings "Chip" McDonald, Los Angeles, CA; Kelly Crocker, Brandon, MS and Leigh-Ann Welch (Brian), Brandon, MS; Two great grandchildren, Brileigh Paige and Brantley Chase Welch both of Brandon MS.
One sister Dolly Hooper of Cleveland, MS; One brother Dan (Candace) Nixon of Columbia, TN.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, William Floyd Long and Earline Long Nixon.; step-father, D.B. Nixon; brother, Roy Long; sister, Billie Jean Hutchison and C.L. Jennings.
Pall bearers will be: Walt Hooper, Randy Hutchison,
Bill Powell, Ron Vaughn, Justin Griffin and Bobby Allen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Batson Hospital for Children, Jackson, MS.
