Mary Elsie Jones Starnes, born on July 2, 1928, in Durant, Mississippi, went to be with the Lord on August 29, 2024, in Cleveland, Mississippi. Visitation will be held on September 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at Brandywine Methodist Church, located at 28165 Highway 547, Pattison, MS 39144. Interment will be at Shelton Cemetery.
Elise was born in Durant, MS and moved to Port Gibson at the age of five. She attended Port Gibson High School. On February 10, 1945, she married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Starnes. They were faithfully married for sixty-nine years. She had five boys. She was the glue that held the family together through difficult days. She became a dietitian at Chamberlain Hunt Academy and enjoyed the relationships developed there. Elsie was an avid reader and was faithful to her daily devotion to grow her faith in Christ and also loved reading Christian fiction. She loved her church and was a faithful member wanting to see it prosper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Jones, and her beloved husband, William Dennis Starnes.
Elsie is survived by her sons, Dennis Wayne Starnes of McComb, MS, William Don Starnes and wife Carolyn of Pattison, MS, Harry Ray Starnes and wife Rachel of Livingston, TN, Timothy Austin Starnes and wife Sarah of Cleveland, MS, and Randy Neil Starnes. She was a proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, along with 2 great-great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Brandywine Methodist Church, 3100 Shelton Weeks Rd, Pattison, MS 39144 or any charity of your choice.
