Maurice Braswell, 98, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Steve McMillon and Rev. Milton Burd officiating.
Mr. Braswell was born December 14, 1916, in Drew, MS, to the late George P. Braswell and Annie Mazell Braswell. He graduated in Crossett High School in Crossett, AR and studies at the Hemphill Engineering School in Memphis, TN. He married Mildred Rebecca Stevens on September 2, 1939, in Crossett, AR. He was engaged in farming in Washington County before retiring. He was a member of the Men's Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Greenville before moving to Cleveland and joining of The First Baptist Church. Mr. Braswell was a member of the Ashbrook Hunting Club where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed reading history books and traveling. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Romale Braswell Kelly and Margaret Braswell, George C. Braswell, Joann Braswell, and Billy B. Braswell. Mr. Braswell is survived by wife, Mildred Rebecca Stevens Braswell of Cleveland; cousins, Margaret Stegge, Shirley Burge, Doris Brown, Maxine Cook and Charles Braswell; sister-in-laws, Louise Stevens Lindsey (the late, Authur) and Claudine Stevens both of Oxford; brother-in-laws, J.F. "Pap" Stevens (Rosemary) of Boyle, and Robert E. Stevens of Hollandale; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. In memory of Mr. Braswell, the family asks that donations be made to First Baptist Church of Cleveland.
