Mr. Melvin Arvis Baker, 82, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Bolivar County Long Term Care. Visitation will be 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Haney officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery. Mr. Baker was born in Cleveland, MS on March 4, 1933, to J.H. Baker and Sally Roberta Alexander Baker. On August 11, 1950, he married Billie Faye Foster. He worked for 45 years as a carpenter and carpet salesman. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Bolivar County Special Forces Unit, Bolivar County Civic Defense; and he worked at the CRA on the weekends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.H. Baker and Sally Baker; wife, Billie Faye Foster Baker; brothers, Bobby Baker, James Baker, and Glendon Baker; and sisters, Arlene Beach and Mavis Wooten. Mr. Baker is survived by his sons, Aaron Baker, Sr. of Water Valley, MS and David Baker (Debra) of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Janice Weeks (W.D.) of Charleston, MS; sister, Margie Williams of Cleveland, MS and Dorothy Rizzo of Garden Grove, CA; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Dewayne Weeks, Joey Weeks, Alan Cockrell, Daniel Baker, Aaron Baker, Jr., and Travis Baker. In memory of Mr. Baker, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
