Mrs. Mildred Day Dugger, 96, of Cleveland, MS, formerly of Greenville, MS, died Saturday morning, September 20, 2014, in North Sunflower Medical Center in Ruleville, MS.
Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Cleveland, MS, followed in the church by the funeral services at 2:00 pm, conducted by Milton Burd.
Mrs. Dugger, known as "Mim" to many, served as the Executive Secretary for 15 years to Walter Stokes, Sr., Director of the Greenville YMCA. Later, she worked 7 years as Executive secretary to the Director of Washington County Welfare. Throughout her working careers, she was Vice-President of the J.W. Dugger Cotton Company. Mrs. Dugger came out of retirement to serve 6 years as the city's Matron of the Juvenile Detention Center. She furnished her talents there until assaulted by a juvenile, breaking her back, renewing her view on retirement, which she re-entered.
Her other activities in the heart of the Delta included: active membership for 55 years in the Greenville First Baptist Church, Women's Club, King Daughters Circle, Charter Member of the "Cotton Wives," years of PTA, and the first woman ever to serve on the Greenville Country Club Board of Directors.
Having lived all her life in Washington County, 77 years, and following her husband's death in 1993, "Mim" moved to Cleveland, MS, in 1995, home of her oldest daughter, Willene.
Mrs. Dugger was preceded in death by: her parents, Anna Middleton Day and Cecil Cleveland Day, Greenville, MS; her husband of 53 years, James William "Bubber" Dugger, Greenville; her siblings: Harold Day, Greenville, Edythe Lynelle Day Phillips, Greenville; Glenna Day Hartlein, Indianola, MS; Hansel Louis Day, Jena, LA; and finally, her grandson, Raymond Keith Duncan, for whom Keith Duncan Baseball Park is named at Bear Pen Park in Cleveland, MS.
Mildred Dugger is survived by her two daughters, Willene Lynelle Dugger Duncan (John), Cleveland and Bonnie Sue Dugger Baskin of Mission Viejo, CA.
Her surviving grandchildren include: Ronald Craig Duncan, Cleveland; Diana Day Duncan Walton, Cordova, TN; Michael Wade Baskin, Louisville, MS (Bethany Lamar); Shannon Michelle Baskin, Charlotte, NC; William Dean Baskin, Charlotte, NC.
Her surviving great-grandchildren: Sara Beth Duncan, Cleveland; Mary Duncan, Cleveland; Kaleigh Walton, Tyler Walton, Cordova, TN; Anna Katharine Baskin, Austin Baskin and Claire Baskin, Louisville, MS.
Also survived by one great-great grandchild, Chase Duncan.
Pallbearers: Don Day, Jena, LA; Dennis Day, Branson, MO; John Moody, Jena, LA; John Hartlein, Jackson, MS; Kenneth Day, Lake Village, AR; and Kenneth Middleton, Glen Allan, MS.
Honorary Pallbearers: Craig Duncan, Cleveland; Wade Baskin of Louisville; Dean Baskin of Charlotte, NC; Ed Kossman and Bill Havens of Cleveland, and Jerry Ivy of Searcy, AR.
