Mildred Gibson

After a brief hospitalization Mildred Jane Vance Gibson passed away on Sunday, December 23. Mrs Gibson was the daughter of Ira and Mayme Vance. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Starnes officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Gibson; sister Lyda; brothers Sidney, Lester and Arthur. Mrs Gibson was born in Murray, Kentucky on July 18, 1923. She graduated from Tilghman High School in Paducah, Kentucky then attended Murray State College where she met her husband of 48 years. She graduated from Indiana State University with a degree in Home Economics. She taught high school, ran a Kiddieville Nursery and managed the Delta State University cafeteria. She was an active member of the First Christian Church for many years before moving her letter to the First Baptist Church. She managed the Wednesday night supper there for 17 years. She was a lifelong reader, an excellent seamstress and an excellent cook. She especially enjoyed the company of children and Boston Terriers. Her hospitality was boundless, and her home was a gathering place for family and friends.
Mrs Gibson is survived by her children John R. Gibson, Madena Culpepper and Alice Ann Gibson; her grandchildren Brian Gibson, Jennifer Miller, Sayward Fortner, Ashley Keim, Robert Culpepper, John Culpepper, Stephen Culpepper and Catherine Bishop; her greatgrandchildren J.P. Miller, Katie Gibson, Holt Fortner, Harper Ann Fortner, Jane Cannon Fortner, Irene Bishop, Mary Bishop, Lexie Keim and Collin Keim.
