Mildred Earlene Kilgore, went to be with the Lord on November 16, 2024, in Greenville, Mississippi.
A visitation honoring Earlene will be held Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 12-1 PM in Greenville, MS at Temple Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will follow at 1 pm in Greenville, MS at Temple Baptist Church.
She was born to Sam Joe and Fannie Cobb on March 23, 1940, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Mildred was known throughout her life for her warm spirit and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.
16 years, Earlene dedicated her skills and hard work to Quick As A Wink Dry Cleaners, where she became a cherished member of the local workforce. In addition to her professional contributions, she was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, whose nurturing nature impacted all who had the privilege to know her.
Earlene's artistic talents shone brightly, especially when she wrote a song at the tender age of 13 titled "Leaving on the Midnight Train." Her ambition and creativity led her to send the song to Nashville, where it was recorded and became a hit—a testament to her enduring legacy and creative spirit.
She is survived by her sons, Randy Kilgore and wife Charlotte of Greenville, MS, and Jerry Kilgore of Taloga, OK; daughters, Sandra Head and husband Tommy of Pearl, MS, and Helen Mathis of Greenville, MS; brothers, Henry Cobb and wife Gladys Ann of Greenville, MS, Joe Allen Cobb and wife Maggie of Indianola, MS, and Sam Cobb and wife Evelyn of Leland, MS; and sister, Mary Frances Lowery of Tupelo, MS. Additionally, she leaves behind seven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Earlene was predeceased by her husbands, Billy Welch and Robert Dean Kilgore; her daughter, Billie Tilson; her parents; and her brothers, James Hardy Cobb and Curtis Bernard "Butch" Cobb.
The impact of Mildred Earlene Kilgore’s life will resonate through the love she cultivated and the memories she created, reminding all of us of the profound influence of a devoted mother, sister, and friend. Her legacy will continue to be cherished by all who love her.
