Mildred Richie Blocker, 88, of Monticello, Arkansas, and formerly of Benoit, Mississippi, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2018, at her home in Monticello. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2018, at Benoit Union Church. Services will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Joe Cole and Reverend Gray Cole officiating. Burial will take place in Beulah Cemetery under the direction of Ray Funeral Home.
Ms. Blocker was born on September 25, 1929 in Philadelphia, MS, to Emmet and Ida Tingle Richie. She married Morris Blocker on September 14, 1952, and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage before the death of Morris. Ms. Blocker held an associates degree from East Central Community College. She enjoyed a career of raising her three children and volunteering for many organizations. She was actively involved in Benoit Union Church and enjoyed serving in many different roles there. She was involved in Delta Rice Council, Bolivar County Cotton Wives, and loved planting flowers along the highway in Benoit.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Blocker; her son, Richie Blocker; her sister, Illene Gordon; and her brother, E.J. Richie.
Survivors include her two daughters, Suzanne Zieman and her husband Mike of Monticello, Arkansas, and Jenny Cole and her husband Joe of Flora, Mississippi, and her daughter in law Margaret Blocker of Benoit, Mississippi. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Barrett Brown, Reverend Gray Cole, Mike Zieman, Clay Peeples, Jeff Carter, and Craig Lott.
Memorials may be made to Benoit Union Church.
