Opal Morgan, 91, of Cleveland, MS. passed away Monday, November 05, 2012, at Bolivar Medical Center Long Term Care. Born in Cleveland, on August 14, 1921, to Fred and Julia Alice Williams, she was the youngest of 15 children. Opal attended Cleveland High School and played basketball under Coach Margaret Wade. She married Angus Emerson Elliott August 19, 1939. After his death in 1948, Opal raised their 3 children in Cleveland, where she resided until her death. In 1961 she married Rollen Morgan and joined him in his fishing hobby. Rollen died in 1974.
Before her retirement Opal worked at Misceramic Tile, Economy Drugs, and Anthony's Department Store. During these years Opal enjoyed dancing in a group, "The Widows" and performing at nursing homes. Having coffee every afternoon with family members was special to her. The family will remember her sense of humor and original expressions. She loved the Christmas season, and with her special touch and green thumb her home and her house sparkled with Christmas joy. Opal was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Boyle United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her siblings and two husbands. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Judy Elliott Boswell in 1961. Survivors include sons, Bobby Elliott (Diane) of Cleveland, MS and Charles "Squeaky" Elliott (Jane) of Leland, MS; 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Opal is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece Jane Lowery and a nephew James Williams of Cleveland.
Mrs. Morgan will be buried in the Beevers Family Cemetery on North Bayou. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, 2012. The family thanks the Long Term Care Facility at Bolivar County Hospital for their excellent and loving care during our loved ones last years. Memorials may be given to the Boyle United Methodist Church or organizations of your choice.
