Oralia “Oran” Soliz Lara, 79, was called home to be with the Lord on May 13, 2023.
A visitation honoring Oran Lara will be held from 5pm – 7pm Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, MS. An additional visitation will be held May 18, 2023, at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church from 11am – 12pm with funeral Mass beginning at 12pm. Burial will follow Mass at North Cleveland Cemetery in Cleveland, MS.
Born on May 6, 1944, in Robstown, TX, she and her family moved to the Mississippi Delta where she grew up and met the love of her life, Phillip (Felipe) Lara. The two met at a family dance party in Rosedale, MS. She and Phillip married on October 31, 1959, in Cleveland, MS at Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church. Oran was first and foremost known for being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She had worked at Color Tile, Care Inn and Baxter Healthcare.
Oran and her husband Phillip were known for their hot tamales. She loved spending quality time with her family, and she also enjoyed traveling and shopping.
Oran is survived by her brother Johnny (Ellen) Soliz; children: Gloria Hobbs, Eva (Ronald) Parr, Sarah (Michael) Sumner, Jessie (Diane) Laro, Phillip (Tami) Laro, Stella (Mike) Stuckey; grandchildren: Lydia Krugler, Mary Laro, Jocelyn Christy, Lara Hobbs, Troy Hobbs, Rachael Crapps, Tillie Tillotson, Joshua Sumner, Daniel Laro, Rebecca Laro, Heather Duplantis, Tyler Laro, Hanah Laro, Sgt. Craig Stuckey, Jennifer Stuckey, Nadia Lara, and Jayla Ball; great-grandchildren: Preslie Cowley, Lindsey Krugler, Addison Krugler, Kalie Krugler, Joncaleb Krugler, Annabella Dyson, Emily Stuckey, Tayla Stuckey, Lawrence Stuckey, Finnegan Curtis, Sadie Crapps, Chloe Christy, Clara Christy, James Laro, John Laro, Charlie Duplantis, Landon Zakis, Leland Laro, and Lillian Laro.
Oran was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Lara and son Louis Lara, parents Juan Charles Soliz and Otilia Salinas Soliz, brothers Arthur Soliz and Trino Soliz, grandson Matthew Parr and nephew Paul Soliz.
Pallbearers are Daniel Laro, Tyler Laro, Troy Hobbs, Joshua Sumner, Joncaleb Krugler and Joe Garcia.
Honorary pallbearers are Sgt. Craig Stuckey, Nathan Soliz, Danny Soliz, John Thompson and Larry Thompson.
