Patricia "Pat" Myers Garrett, 80, of Benoit, MS, went to be with the Lord October 19, 2021.
Patricia, known as Pat to her family and friends, was born April 23, 1941, in Indianola, MS. She grew up in Jackson, MS and married Richard Garrett, originally of Gunnison, on February 16, 1962. They spent most of their married life in Gunnison, raising their three children and where Pat worked as a bookkeeper for Bunge Grain Elevator. Pat and Richard were married for 49 years until his death in December 2011. She loved watching birds outside her window, especially hummingbirds. Pat also loved gardening and was an excellent cook. She mastered the art of making divinity, which was enjoyed by family and friends on holidays, weddings, and other special occasions. She was very active in her church, teaching Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School. She avidly read and studied her Bible daily.
Most of all, she loved spending time with her family playing cards and games, RV-ing with her husband, family and grandchildren who lovingly knew her as "Gran Gran".
She is predeceased by her father, Douglas Carver; mother, Dorothy Pierce Myers and adoptive father, Lance Myers; brother, Douglas Adair Myers; and husband, Richard Garrett.
Patricia is survived by her son Ricky Garrett (Gaye) of Greenfield, IN; daughters, Sara Vannucci (Greg) of Arlington, TN and Patti Gordon of Senatobia, MS; grandchildren, Shelby Lynn Garrett, William Richard Garrett, Lacey Adair McAlister (Ryan), Abbey Ray Robertson (Thomas), and Nicholas Eugene Vannucci; brothers, Joseph P. Myers, Lance Myers Jr., and S. Dixon Myers. It was her request that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Benoit Union Church Operation Christmas Child Fund, P.O. Box 21, Benoit, MS 38725 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Operation Christmas Child was a passion of Pat's for many years. This ministry of the Samaritan's Purse Organization partners with local churches to collect and deliver shoebox gifts to millions of children worldwide. Pat worked tirelessly with church members and many others to gather items, pack boxes, and ship them to be a special Christmas gift of love and sharing the life-changing Good News of Jesus. It made her heart happy to watch videos of children opening the shoeboxes and the smiles it brought to their faces.
