Mr. Paul Crawford "Jay" Ashford, 90, of Cleveland, passed away Monday, February 2, 2015, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Bro. Tim McCarter officiating. Interment will be in North Cleveland Cemetery. Mr. Ashford was born on October 29, 1924, to Paul Clinton Ashford and Daisy Mae Crews Ashford. On December 14, 1991, he married Elizabeth "Beth" Marie Smart. He was a member of the Church of Christ, and he also proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII.
He loved reading, gardening, and working with concrete.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Daisy Mae Ashford; first wife, Ester Rebecca "Becky" Davis; grandson, Alan R. Davis; and brother, Horace Ashford. Mr. Ashford is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Marie Ashford of Cleveland; daughter, Susan Davis (Markey) of Calhoun City; grandsons, Jason H. Davis of Vardaman and Jarrod V. Davis of Calhoun City; great-grandchildren, Jaymie Davis, Dawson Davis, and Easton Davis; brothers, Herman Ashford (Pat) of Brandon and Elton Ashford (Lorna) of Warner Robbins, GA; sisters, Frances Inman of West Helena, AR and Delphia Hirth (Don) of Gulfport; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bill Tatum, Eric Tatum, Jeffrey Shivers, Mark Boone, Steve Burchfield, Danny Tharp, and Alton Vance. Honorary pallbearers will be Adrian Hollingsworth, Terry Hollingsworth, Calvin Dye, Roy Boone and Art Tatum.
In honor of Mr. Ashford's service to his country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at half mast at Ray Funeral Home on Saturday.
