Peter Dixon Young, Jr., 80, of Greenbrier, Arkansas, originally of Benoit, Mississippi, passed away on January 3, 2024, after a bout with Covid Pneumonia.
Peter was born on January 19, 1943, to Peter and Sarah Porter Young in Greenville, Mississippi. In 1960 he graduated from Benoit High School, and a few years later received a letter from LBJ informing him of his selection to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War with the 38th Engineers. After his time in the service, he earned a degree in Science from Delta State University. Peter remained close with many of his war buddies for the following 60 years and looked forward to getting together with them twice a year. After leaving the Mississippi Delta briefly, he moved back in 1973 to help farm after his father suffered a heart attack. Once his farming years ended, Peter built a successful insurance business and was the owner of Delta Crop Insurance in Greenville, Mississippi.Peter attended Benoit Union Church. He loved the Lord, requested a new Bible for Christmas this year and received one. Peter was a man of few words, but when he spoke, people listened.
Peter married the love of his life, Madge, in 1975. They provided a loving home for their three children, Dabney, Brad and Margaret. Peter was a devoted husband that cared deeply for his family. His grandchildren were the icing on the cake.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Sarah Porter Young.
He is survived by his wife, Madge Patterson Young, children, Dabney Kessing (Bernie), Brad Young (Cyndi), Margaret Passalaqua (Sal), grandchildren, Max Passalaqua, Meg Passalaqua and Victoria Anne Kessing, brother, Jim Young (Carole) and a host of nieces and nephews.Services will be held at Benoit Union Church on Monday, January 8, 2024.
The visitation will be at 12:00 pm and with funeral service at 1:00 pm. The burial will follow at Burrus Cemetery in Benoit.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior organization or organization of your choosing. Arrangements by Ray Funeral Home in Cleveland, Mississippi.
