Ralph Orman Washington, 70, of Cleveland, MS, passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012, at St. Dominic's Hospital, in Jackson. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Ray Funeral Home, and a second visitation will be held 2:00-3:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at St. Luke Methodist Church. Services will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2012, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Jamie Moore officiating, assisted by Dixie Holder-Cummings. Interment will follow in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Ralph was born January 27, 1942, in Cleveland, MS, to Earl Orman Washington and Arbeth Christine Lusk Washington. He married Melba Louise Moore on December 31, 1966, in Leake County. He served in the Airforce during the Vietnam War. He was a member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Military Order of the Stars and Bars, The Lions Club, and was on the committee of The United Way. He was an active member of St. Luke United Methodist Church for over 44 years. He sang in the choir and worked on various committees. Mr. Ralph was employed by Delta State University as a warehouse manager for over 22 years. He was a talented wood worker and enjoyed gardening. Prior to his work at Delta State he was a radio D.J. and achieved the Mr. DeeJay USA Hall of Fame under his D.J. Name, "Jack Allen."
He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Arbeth Washington.
Mr. Ralph is survived by his wife, Melba Moore Washington of Cleveland, MS; sons, Brian O'Dell Washington (Kimberly Kelly) of Acworth, GA, and Chad Moore Washington (Robin Passer) of Clinton, MS; grandchildren, Thomas Stanford Washington, George Kimble Washington, Vincent Augustine Washington, Laura Evelyn Washington, all of Acworth, GA and Kira Alyn Washington and Kaleb Passer Washington, both of Clinton, MS; brothers, Earl Washington of Lexington, KY, Travis Washington of Cleveland, MS, Doug Washington, of Cleveland, MS, and Edwin Washington of Pearl, MS; sisters, Laura Dow of Orangevale, CA, and Sara Longale of Humble, TX.
Pallbearers will be Karl Washington, Keith Washington, Paul Washington, Scott Washington, Elliott Moore, Paul Lindsey, Blake McGaughy, and Hugh Holder-Cummings. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jonathan Lemasters, Danny Moore, Kimble Kelly, Emmett Morris, Taylor Wilson, Harrison Dilly, and Junior Miller.
Memorials can be made to St. Luke United Methodist Church or the Diabetes Association.
