Rex M. Davis, 92, formerly of Cleveland, MS passed away peacefully at Valor Manor in Greenville, MS on Thursday, September 14, 2017. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 18, 2017 at Ray Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 18, 2017 in North Cleveland Cemetery with Rev. James Breland officiating.
Rex was born on March 26, 1925 in Maben, MS. After completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served our country during World War II with the 36th Infantry (Texas) Division in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. Honorable discharged in 1946, Rex continued his education at Wood Jr. College in Mathison, MS and was a 1950 graduate of Delta State University.
Rex had a 38-year career with Mississippi Power & Light Company as a power plant Operator at plants in Jackson, Cleveland, Natchez and Operating Superintendent at Greenville.
In his youth, he excelled in baseball and tennis. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends during his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Levy and Vera Davis; his brother, Murl Davis; and sister, Sylvia Long Fugham.
Rex is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Lenora Watson Davis; sons, Steve Davis (Debbie) of Cleveland, MS, Larry Davis (Debbie) of Port Gibson, MS; daughters, Debbie McCabe (Jesse) of Arlington, TN; and Karen Dempsey (Rodney) of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Jayson) of Heber Springs, AR, Rex Davis (Martha) of Cleveland, MS, Kathryn Davis of Cleveland, MS, Aaron Davis of Port Gibson, MS, Kaitlyn Henson (Cole) of Ackerman, MS, Emily Williams (Nick) of Charleston, SC, Anna McCabe of Memphis, TN, Brian Dempsey (Ellen) of Florence, AL, Brandon Dempsey (Kyle) of Murfreesboro, TN, and Patrick Dempsey of Lynchburg, VA; nephew, Rob Long of Hernando, MS; niece, Melanie Long McGee of Brandon, MS; and nine great grandchildren.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the management and all the care givers of Valor Manor (Wellington Place) in Greenville and to Grace Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Delta State University Foundation or the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will be Brian Dempsey, Brandon Dempsey, Rex Davis, Patrick Dempsey, Aaron Davis, Jayson Jones, and Rob Long.
