Robert Luther Childers

Luther Childers 72, of Doddsville, MS was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 while surrounded by family.

A visitation will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at Ray Funeral Home from 12-2pm  with a Celebration of Life Service at 2pm in Ray Funeral Home. A Graveside service with military honors will follow in the Linn Methodist Church Cemetery.

Luther is the son of the late Robert and Burlene Childers, Luther was a 1967 graduate of Linn High School and he told many stories of his childhood and shared a lifetime of memories of being a Linn Leopard.

Though he never spoke much of it, he bravely served our country as a United States Marine in Vietnam. Luther joined the Marine Corps on his birthday, December 20, 1968, married his sweetheart, Jane Childers(Holeman) on May 7, 1969 and shortly thereafter left for basic training at Camp Lejeune. Luther was deployed in 1969 to the Republic of Vietnam with the 3^rd Battalion, 5^th Marines Regiment where he became a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and National Defense Medalist.

Luther found his true passion after serving his country and building a life with his wife and three children. He spent his life farming, chasing auction sales, gardening but most of all he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (poppy) who loved his family, and friends dearly.

Luther is preceded in passing by his parents, Robert and Burlene Childers, three infant sisters.

Luther is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane three children, Mark, Scott(Dana) and Traci (Mitch). He leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Callie(Turner), Carson, Bailey, Olivia, Sidney, and James Luke along with great grandchildren, Ava, Lexi, and Will Tyler. Luther is also leaving behind his only sibling, Jimmy(Beth).
