Mr. Robert Davis Baldwin, Sr., 77, of Merigold, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson. Visitation will be 1:00 to 2:00 Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Haney officiating. Interment will be in Interstate Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Baldwin was born in Charleston, MS on January 16, 1938, to Vernon Davis Baldwin and Jewel Ione Chandler Baldwin. He was a 1957 graduate of Cleveland High school, and from 1959 to 1963, he proudly served our country in the United States Air Force where he became an administrative specialist in 1960. On September 6, 1963, he married Margaret Tribble at Sunflower Nazarene Church. In 1964, he became a Patrolman for the Cleveland police department. In 1966, he began his work as a deputy for Bolivar County Sheriff Department then moved up to Assistant Sheriff from 1972 to 1989. While working at the Sheriff Department, he attended Delta State University and Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Training. He also studied General Law Enforcement with MLEOTA, Police Records at Jones County Junior College, Fingerprint Classification, Personnel Management and Budgeting, and Supervision. In 1973, He graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and in 1989 he became the Undersheriff of Bolivar County. In addition to serving his community through law enforcement and protection, he was a member of the following professional organizations: Bolivar County Law Enforcement Association, Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association, Mississippi Deputy Sheriffs Association, Mississippi Chapter of the F.B.I. National Academy Associates, and the National Sheriffs Association. He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Davis Baldwin and Jewel Ione Chandler Baldwin; sister, Joyce B. Kendall; and brothers, Wade Baldwin and Charles Keith Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Margaret Tribble Baldwin of Merigold; children, Geletha "Gee" McCool (Gary) of Merigold and Robert Davis "Bobby" Baldwin, Jr. (Ellen) of Gulfport; grandchildren, Dave McCool (Brittany) of Cleveland, Darren Garrett (Jaime) of Biloxi, and Lindsey Wasson (Eric) of Merigold; great-grandchildren, Rivers and Jackson McCool of Cleveland, Addilyn Garrett of Biloxi, and one on the way, Jace Wasson of Merigold; siblings, Carol Hudspeth (Ronnie) of Greenville, Lloyd Baldwin of Cleveland, and Jimmy Baldwin (Carrie) of Shaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family. Pallbearers will be Joe Smith, Charles Gilmer, Dave McCool, Eric Wasson, Darren Garrett, and Pat Tribble. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Taylor, Donald Tribble, Charles Anderson, and Charles Griffin. In memory of Mr. Baldwin, the family asks that donations be made to Paw Prints Animal Shelter in Cleveland.
