Robert E. Elliott
Bobby
Bobby Elliott, 75, of Cleveland passed away surrounded by his family on February 28, 2016, at Bolivar Medical Center.
Visitation was held March 2, 2016 from 12-2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Cleveland First United Methodist Church. The Celebration of Life service followed with Reverend Will Wilkerson officiating. Interment was in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Bob was born August 10, 1940, to Angus Emerson Elliott and Opal Williams Elliott in Coffeeville, Mississippi. After his father died, the family moved to Cleveland where Bob graduated from Cleveland High School in 1959. His memories from his secondary school years, especially those involving sports, were special to him.
In 1962, Bob joined the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged Airman First Class in 1966. He returned home and continued his education at Delta State University and graduated with a BS in Biology.
On February 4, 1968, he married Diane Moore from Drew. Upon his death they had been married for 48 years. To support his family Bob chose to work in the agricultural field. After working for Jimmy Sanders Seed Company, he continued his education by attending Mississippi State University and receiving a MA in Agronomy with a specialty in Seed Technology in 1977. He then worked for Mississippi Seed Improvement Association. In June, 1979, Bob and his family moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he worked at the University of Kentucky in the Division of Regulatory Services. After returning to Cleveland in July, 1984, Bob worked for Gerald Wolfe Consulting Services. In 1988 he established Bobby Elliott Consulting Service and retired as a rice consultant in 2004.
Bob was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees. He loved his church and was the handyman. Bob could fix almost anything, and if he couldn't he knew who to call. Bob was blessed with a calm, cheerful disposition; he always had a smile on his face. During his retirement years he enjoyed his time with the coffee drinkers. But most of all he enjoyed working around his home and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He is survived by his children: Robin of Southaven; Brad (Tara) of Leland; and John Mark (Emily) of Tupelo. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Wesley, Drew, of Leland; John Coley, Scottie of Tupelo. His brother Charles "Squeaky" Elliott of Leland survives him and numerous cousins, including Jane Lowery and James Williams of Cleveland.
Memorials may be made to Cleveland First United Methodist Church or an organization of your choice.
