Robert Lee Yeager, 87, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, May 9, 2014 at Walter B. Crook. Visitation will be 10- 11 a.m Monday at the Covenant Presbyterian Church. Celebration of Life Services will be immediately follow beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Yeager was born on May 25, 1926 to Robert Lee Yeager and Louella Doughty Yeager in Natchez, MS. The family moved to Skene, MS in 1934 to farm. Mr. Yeager graduated from Skene Consolidated School and attended Delta State College before going into service. He served in the Army Medical Corp in both Korea and in the Army of occupation of Japan, returning home from service; he married his high school sweetheart, Margery Bays. He continued his education at Mississippi State University receiving a degree in Agriculture Education. After teaching two years in the veteran's Administration Program in DeValls Bluff, Arkansas he returned to Skene to manage the family farm. He loved farming and enjoyed it immensely until his retirement due to health reasons in 1991.
He was Charter Member of Covenant Presbyterian Church which he loved and attended regularly as long as possible, a member of the Mayflower Society, the Germana Heritage Association, Production Credit Assn, MS Farm Bureau, Delta Council, Mississippi Rice Growers Assn, and the Soybean Association. He served on the Boards of Directors of Greenville Production Credit Corp, The Bolivar County Farm Bureau, the Skene Civic Improvement Society and was on the first Board of Directors of Bayou Academy.
Mr. Yeager was a devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. His love of his family gave him an interest and desire to research past generations. This began his genealogy hobby and maternal bloodline to the Mayflower.
Mr. Yeager is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Emma Jo Woodruff; and a brother, William Cecil "Billy" Yeager.
Mr. Yeager is Survived by his wife, Margery Bays Yeager; sons, Robert Yeager III (Linda) of Skene; daughters, Margaret Ann St. Peter of Boyle and Susan Yeager Gleason of Madison, MS; a brother, Jimmy Yeager (Neysa) of Cleveland; granddaughters, Kim Yeager Abide (Gary), Laura Yeager Miller, Lacey St. Peter Fitts (PAxton), Wendy Yeager Holladay (Rob), Sonya St, Peter Canfield (Jonathan), Andrea Yeager Edwards (Aaron), and Anna Michele Gleason; and a special niece, Bettye Hill; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Gary Abide, Rob Holladay, Paxton Fitts, Jonathan Canfield, and Aaron Edwards. Honorary Pallbearers will be David Arant, Buck Beckham, Boo Ferris, Deb Gee, Joey Herbison, Laurence Mellen, David Robinson, Ken Owen, Houston Weaver, and Tommy Worthy.
