Mr. Robert Burns Miller, 92, of Cleveland, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 22, 2014, at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Wilkerson officiating. Interment will be in New Cleveland Cemetery.
Mr. Miller was born in Hazlehurst, MS on November 1, 1922, to Jefferson Davis Miller and Mary Rea Miller. His father served as Financial Secretary at Delta State in the late 1940's, and his mother ran "The Mill" student center at Delta State during that time. He proudly served our country as a United States Marine in the Pacific during WWII. In December of 1944, he married Elizabeth Anne Champion in Rosedale, MS. He worked as a superintendent in construction for 25 plus years with the majority of his career at Wherry Construction, and then continued his working career at Delta Hardware. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, was a hospital volunteer at Bolivar Medical Center, and he enjoyed watching sports.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson Davis Miller and Mary Rea Miller; wife, Elizabeth Anne Champion Miller; brother, Jefferson Davis Miller, Jr.; and sister, Doris Miller Archer.
Mr. Miller is survived by sons, Robert Burns "Bob" Miller, Jr. (Janie Givens) of Memphis, TN, Steven Rea Miller (Verne Hairston) of Greenville, MS, and Kent Champion Miller (Pat Rayner) of Cleveland, MS; grandchildren, MaryRea Ragghianti (James) of Memphis, TN, Hayes Miller of Greenville, MS, Marcus Miller (Heather) of Cleveland, MS and Elizabeth "Liz" Miller of Cleveland, MS; great-grandson, Cole Miller of Cleveland; special companion, Gloria Griffith of Cleveland; nephews, Jeff Archer (Sandy) of Oakridge, NJ, Garland Archer (Mary) of South Port, NC, Jeff Miller of Anacortes, WA, Dave Miller of Burlington, WA, Dale Garman of Salinas, CA, Ed Hall of Annapolis, MD, and Jack Hall of Oceanside, CA; and nieces, Carol Woods of Destin, FL, Betty Dickey of Tupelo, MS, and Peggy Hall of Centreville, MD.
Pallbearers will be Marcus Miller, James Ragghianti, Danny Griffith, Bill Havens, Herbert Swain, and Hayes Miller.
In memory of Mr. Miller, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, Delta State University, or the charity of your choice.
