Mr. Roy Norquist, 88, of Cleveland, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Bolivar Medical Center. Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Celebration of Life services will immediately follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at St. Luke United Methodist Church with Rev. Darian Duckworth officiating. Interment will be in Delta Heights Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Norquist was born March 15, 1926, to James David Norquist and Eunice Pounds Norquist. He proudly served our country in the USN Armed Guard and the Merchant Marines during WWII. On March 26, 1949, he married Imo Jean Viner in Drew, Ms. He worked for 49 years as a contractor, was a charter member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, was a member of the VFW, and he was a diehard Ole Miss Rebel Fan. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, and horses.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James David and Eunice Pounds Norquist; and two grandsons, Ryan Schlatter and Joseph Schlatter.
Mr. Norquist is survived by his wife of 65 years, Imo Jean Viner Norquist of Cleveland; children, Steve Norquist (Christene) of Pearl, MS, Rita Norquist of Little Rock, AR, Lynn Schlatter (Ronnie) of Indianola, MS, Gloria Serio of Olive Branch, MS, Carolyn Norquist of Leland, MS, and Renee Norquist of DeBary, FL; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
